SUMT-2019-S2

25 years of Muay Thai at the University of Sydney

SUMT has been the official home of Muay Thai and kickboxing at the University of Sydney since 1998. For over 25 years the club has taught students discipline and self defence, it has helped promote a healthier lifestyle and it has trained thousands in the art of eight limbs.

Modern art, traditional roots

Muay Thai is centuries-old martial art which has evolved into one of the world’s most technical brutal ring sports.

A full-body experience

Muay Thai is known as the ‘art of eight limbs’, incorporating a fighter’s two fists, elbows, knees and legs as weapons.

Physicality meets spirituality

We believe there is no better martial art that teaches discipline, spirituality and the five values of respect, honour, fair play, excellence and tradition.

Equipment

Every member must have at a minimum gloves, shin guards, hand wraps, a water bottle and towel. Mouth guards are mandatory for sparring and groin guards are recommended. For hygiene reasons we are unable to lend gear.

What students say about SUMT

Without an ounce of hesitation this 5 star constitutes my strong recommendation for CL as an instructor. For the two years of kickboxing I did under CL, he was a stand out act, till this day no instructor has shown to be equal - none have shown as much engagement, passion for the sport, professionalism.
— Nhuy Pham
A great trainer and a friendly environment. I met very nice people there, with whom I enjoyed the combination of fitness, conditioning, techniques and flexibility training in each session.
— Dheyaa Ali Hussein
CL is a patient, thorough & supportive trainer regardless of age, sex or experience. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced, you CAN take this class & benefit from it. I would highly recommend anyone & everyone to give it a go if you’re trying to get fit, lose weight, or de-stress from your daily life. All you have to do is show up.
— Suzi Tee
